I’m sure nobody here is unfamiliar with forums, where you can register an account and participate in discussions with other members on various topics.
As you know, posts on forums are simply contributions from members within a particular thread, and they are not optimized for SEO. However, sometimes, forums can still rank keywords on the first page of SERP. This indicates that those keywords are relatively easy. And the best thing is that forums are often categorized by niche. There are forums about makeup, forums about pets, forums about manga, and so on.
In this guide, we will discover easy keywords that forums can completely rank for, which means you can surely rank with the right SEO tactics.
The requirements
This method requires:
- Ahrefs
The official Ahrefs subscription is very expensive, thus I always use this cheap Ahrefs group buy for doing keyword research. You may want to give it a try.
The instruction
First, go to google.com, then search for queries like this: niche + forums. For example: dog forums. After that, Google should display some forums related to dogs.
Second, you choose around 10 appropriate forums that are closest to the niche. Copy the domains to Notepad.
Third, go to Ahrefs, on the top menu, click on More, then click on Batch analysis, after that put those domains to the blank and click on Analyse.
Fourth, now let’s examine analyze the first result: the forum has 20729 traffic and a moderate DR (36). The rule of thumb is websites with high traffic but low DR are always worth analyzing.
Fifth, click on the arrow next to the website URL, then choose Organic keywords.
Sixth, apply the filter as below:
- Position: Min – 5
- Volume: 100 – Max
- KD: Min – 5
After that, click on Show results, this is the results:
Seventh, click on the SERP button of each keyword, for example:
This keyword (do dogs have eyelashes) is worth targeting because there are
- 3 websites with high AR, low DR rank for this keyword
- Pinterest rank for this keyword
This, again, indicates this keyword is very easy.
With this keyword research technique, it’s guaranteed that you will discover keywords with at least one forum ranking on the first page of the SERP, indicating low competition. The act of analyzing the SERP helps identify keywords that many low-authority websites can rank for, which strongly asserts that the keyword is easy, thereby increasing your chances of ranking for those keywords.
