KW Guide #04: The Parasite and the Host

A parasite is an organism that lives on or in a host organism and gets its food from or at the expense of its host.

The host is the organism that supports the parasite.

The relationship between a parasite and its host is often described as parasitic.

The idea

For a long time, web 2.0 has been used as an SEO technique based on the high authority of the platform. Basically, SEO practitioners will register an account on a certain platform, then post content on it. Because these platforms often have very high DA and DR (over 80), they are considered high authority in the eyes of Google. Thus, just posting an article can get it to page 1 of the SERP, and sometimes just spamming backlinks using software like Scrapebox or GSA can get the keyword to the top. This technique is called parasite SEO.

Some popular Web 2.0: Google sites, Amazon AWS, Reddit, Linkedin, Quora,…

The weakness is that sometimes the platforms delete your affiliate links, or turn your backlinks from dofollow to nofollow, or worse, delete your content altogether. It’s their platform, their rules.

Anyway, in this guide, we will discover easy keywords that Web 2.0 can still rank for.

The requirements

This method requires:

  • Ahrefs

The official Ahrefs subscription is very expensive, thus I always use this cheap Ahrefs group buy for doing keyword research. You may want to give it a try.

The instruction

Let’s take Google sites as an example.

First, go to Ahrefs, click on Site explorer tab, and input sites.google.com, don’t forget to set it to domain with all its subdomains. See the image below:

Second, click on the Top pages on your left panel, and set the filter as below:

  • Position: Up to 5
  • Volume: From 5000
  • Exclude: porn, sex, youtube, download (you don’t want to mess with these keywords)

(You can always change the number above to see the best results, just try and error).

After that, click on Show results.

Third, Ahrefs should show the results. Let see the top keywords, they are all low competition:

Fourth, you can go a step further by examining all the keywords that a parasite is ranking. Just click on the drop-down menu near the URL that you want to examine, then click on Organic keywords:

The result shows easy keywords:

Now that you have just found easy keywords, you should already know what to do next.
